Questions and Answers
We designed our Jeep TJ Wagoneer Dana 44 swap kit to make it easy for you to put a Dana 44 in the front of your Jeep TJ, LJ, XJ, or MJ. This kit is designed to work with a Dana 44 driver drop front axle out of a 1980-1991 Jeep Wagoneer narrow track (~60" WMS-WMS). All parts of this kit are keyed to the truss, making installation a breeze. Simply set your caster angle, center and level the truss, and all other components will locate off from the truss. This kit includes all of the needed suspension brackets to install a Dana 44 under your Jeep, welding is required.
Installation Notes:
Trimming of the casting on the drivers side is required
This truss system may work on other Dana 44s, however we have only tested it on the driver drop FSJ Wagoneer narrow track (~60" WMS-WMS)
The lug pattern on the Wagoneer Dana 44 is 6x5.5 this will not match the factory lug pattern on your Jeep. You will need to re-drill your existing rear axle to match the lug pattern or swap the rear axle.
The upper control arm mounts on this kit are approximately 1-1/4" higher due to the larger casting of the Dana 44. Adjustable upper and lower control arms are recommended.
Brake lines, driveshaft modifications, vent tube, and steering linkages are the responsibility of the end user.

Works as Expected, Easy Swap
Overall an easy swap. Only complaint was that the instructions called for removing 3" of differential housing, only needed to remove about 2.3-2.5". Advise that fit it first, then mark out cut for truss and left LCA.

Dana 44 truss
I recently bought a set of Wagoneer Dana 44 axles to put under my Cherokee and was looking to keep everything in a stock location. I just so happen to run across this and bought it. Worked great and very straight forward on instructions.

Q:
Why do you have to cut the housing?
Asked by:
Marcos
- 2/14/2020
A:
We have you cut the housing for a few reasons. One, it's never a good idea to weld dis-similar metals together in a application where a lot of tension is involved. Two, cast steel is very brittle in comparison to the steel used to make the tubes. Therefore we don't really want to put a lot of assurance on it in a suspension. We make our products to be a strong as the can be and that includes assuring that they're mated to a strong surface.

Q:
Are the coil spring retainers located forward of the axle or right on top of the axle? If they are forward, can we move them over the axle?
Asked by:
DustyBunch
- 10/5/2019
A:
We believe they sit a bit forward of the axle, but without pulling up a print we don't want to tell you a certain answer. It is designed for the coil spring to still sit in it's factory location.

Q:
Are the front and rear truss bracing plates reversible so that this kit can "mirrored" to work with a passenger side differential? (Such as with a 1970's Wagoneer front axle)
Asked by:
Branden
- 12/9/2019
A:
No, this is made to only work one way.

Q:
I've been looking into doing this swap I noticed its "not for sale" is that a temporary thing and if so any idea when they might be for sale again? Thanks,
Asked by:
Alvin

A:
That just means we're out of stock on that kit. We're hoping to be back in stock on those around early May.
